  Reliability is as important as performance, and that was the primary objective for The NeilPryde Design Centre when tasked with revising the design of the X9 Mast.

The result, based on hundreds of hours of testing, numerous prototypes and design iterations, is the X9 Ultra. The X9 Ultra features a significant revision of the previous construction, notably boosting durability without modifying either the bend curve or flex characteristics. This means that the mast is compatible with all sails designed for the ‘classic’ X9 mast.

The X9 Ultra differs from standard 100% pre-preg carbon masts in that it uses a complex "double sandwich" construction instead of the typically used single sandwich. This method of construction offers all the same benefits as a traditional mast – but with enhanced durability due to the added advantage of strong multidirectional interlocking the various layers. This results in a less fragile composite; greater flexibility without failure and improved production control – and a far more durable mast.
